Specious Books
< / >

With design conceived not so much as a mode of self-expression but rather as an act of cognition and reflection, one of the most common and basic mediums in graphic design, the bookcover, is a welcome field for speculative or absurd as well as concrete, critical thought. In the first stage of DICEY’s project Specious Books this approach results in »contemporary cover design for books that probably don’t exist«. You wouldn’t be surprised to find these books or similar titles in a store or even on your friends’ bookshelves (this may be amusing in some instances, and daunting in other.) But for now these covers are just visual condensates of the hypothetical contents, serving as canvases for critique and satire, direct or hidden in plain sight, and as visual playgrounds.
